The Council of the Village of South River, at its April 8, 2019 meeting, accept, with regret, the resignation of Councillor Ian McNeil.

 

As per the Municipal Act, 2001, Sections 259 to  264 requires the Council of the Village of South River, within sixty (60) days after the day a declaration of vacancy is made, to fill the vacancy by:

 

a)      Appointing a person who has consented to accept the office if appointed; or

 

b)     Require a by-election to be held to fill the vacancy in accordance with Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

 

The Council, by resolution #107-2019, does hereby declare Councillor McNeil’s seat vacant and requests the Clerk Administrator to advertise the vacancy and request interested individuals to submit an Expression of Interest to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term of office (November 30, 2022). Previous Council or Board experience will be considered an asset.

Reports to: Village Council Hours of Work: Minimum of 35 hours per week Salary: Based on experience and education plus benefits package which includes the OMERS pension plan. South River, a single tier municipality, is a village on Highway 124 near Algonquin Park in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District of Ontario, Canada. It is about halfway between North Bay and Huntsville or a 3-hour drive north from Toronto.

Reporting directly to Council, the Clerk Administrator will be responsible for the efficient and effective administration of all departments, personnel and resources of the Village of South River and shall be accountable to Council for such responsibilities. The Clerk Administrator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: ? Establish internal directives, policies and procedures including general administration, human resources, finances, community development and operations to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Village as a whole and a member of the surrounding regional community; ? Work with the Chief Financial Officer to exercise general financial control over all departments of the Municipality ensuring integrity and accuracy of financial reporting systems and the proper maintenance of sound financial controls; ? Research, investigate and prepare timely and concise presentations and reports for Council (either written or verbal as the situation requires); ? Create, maintain and update with Council the vision and strategic direction of the Village; ? Direct and govern all employees of the Village in accordance with applicable employee legislation and regulations, the Collective Agreement and employment agreements; ? Represent the Village with citizens, community group/associations, special interest groups, developers, commercial interest and with provincial and Federal government agencies. ? The successful candidate will have a post-secondary diploma relative to area of responsibility or a AMCTO Professional Accreditation or a willingness to attain an AMCTO designation. ? Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience leading, or being part of a senior leadership of, a municipal organization or an organization comparable in size, scope or responsibility. ? Have a working knowledge of or familiarity with the Municipal Act, Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and the Protection of Privacy Act and other related legislation. ? Broad knowledge of municipal administration and contemporary customer service practices ? Excellent interpersonal communication, conceptual, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, judgement, leadership, written communication and management skills ? Available to attend evening meetings as required

JOINT BUILDING COMMITTEE Serving the Municipalities of Burk’s Falls, Joly, Machar, Ryerson, South River, Strong and Sundridge

Requires a Permanent Part time Deputy Chief Building Official

Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the successful candidate will conduct plan examinations for compliance with Ontario Building Code & Act, conduct site inspections, investigate complaints and assist the public and contractors in a professional and courteous manner. Qualifications: • Qualified with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, with respect to Bill 124, in the following categories: General Legal/Process for Inspectors, House, Small Buildings, Large Buildings, Building Services, Structural, Plumbing-All Buildings, and HVAC House • Ability to interpret blue prints and construction drawings • Good working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and Regulations • Three to five years of building construction and / or Municipal Building Department experience. • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to write reports and letters. • Good computer literacy skills in a windows based environment. • Must have a valid motor vehicle license (G) classification. The salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience (salary range $28.00 to $33.00 per hour), 24 hours per week.

Casual Crossing Guard

The Village of South River requires a BACK-UP CROSSING GUARD for the remainder of the 2018/2019 school year.

Job Summary:

The primary focus is the safety and the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading children across the roadway or intersection. Crossing Guards are not encouraged to engage in traffic direction or control.

Scope of Work:

Works approximately one hour per day as required, Monday through Friday, during the public school year (September to June). Working conditions will vary depending on the weather of each season during the school year. Specific hours to be worked will be coordinated with the public school and may vary depending on school vacations and professional development days.  This position is to provide relief to permanent crossing guards.

At present the hours are as follows:

Morning:             8:10 a.m. until 8:40 a.m.

Afternoon:          2:55 p.m. until 3:25 p.m.
