The Village of South River Requires a Full-Time Public Works Operator

The Full-Time Public Works Operator is responsible to actively assist the Public Works Chief Operator to assist in the provision of public works services for the Village of South River as it relates to public safety, convenience of the public, budget and provincial regulations.

To work on public works projects and community support programs of the Village in accordance with Council Policy and Provincial Legislation (including but not limited to the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment. and The Accessibility Act). The Full-Time Public Works Operator reports directly to the Public Works Chief Operator or, during times of vacation, training or sickness, the Chief Operator’s designate.

The Full-Time Public Works Operator must possess:

  1. Possess a Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate or a willingness to obtain in a reasonable time frame.

  2. Possess a Class DZ license and a willingness to get other certification if needed in a reasonable time frame.

  3. Other skills such as being able to operate a back hoe or loader, a chain saw, and have or be willing to obtain a CPR/First Aid certificate and a propane certificate.

  4. Knowledge of light and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.

Range of pay: Public Works Operator without a Water Certificate beginning at $19.29; Public Works Operator with a Water Certificate beginning at $19.79. OMERS Pension when the employee meets OMERS criteria. Benefit package.

The Village of South River Requires a .4 Part-Time Public Works Operator

The Part-Time Public Works Operator is responsible to actively participate in the maintenance and construction of all Village roads, sidewalks, parks and water distribution system. To work on other public works projects and community support programs of the Village of South River in accordance with Council Policy and Provincial Legislation (including but not limited to the Ministry of Transportation, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Natural Resources). The Part-Time Public Works Operator reports directly to the Chief Operator or, during times of vacation, training or sickness, the Chief Operator’s designate.

The Part-Time Public Works Operator must possess a Class DZ license, a current CPR/First Aid certificate or be willing to obtain these certificates in a reasonable time frame agreed upon at the time of hiring. A Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate (or higher) would be an asset. 

The Candidate in this .4 Part-time position will be guaranteed an allotment of hours equal to 832 hours annually (more if the need arises). 

The Candidate will be available for on-call and call backs and be responsible to respond to emergencies which occur outside the normal 40 hour work week (outside normal Monday to Friday working hours). 

Rate of pay: Beginning at $19.29 without Water Certificate; beginning at $19.79 with Water Certificate. OMERS Pension when the employee meets OMERS criteria.

Casual Crossing Guard

The Village of South River requires a BACK-UP CROSSING GUARD for the remainder of the 2017/2018 school year.

Job Summary:

The primary focus is the safety and the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading children across the roadway or intersection. Crossing Guards are not encouraged to engage in traffic direction or control.

Scope of Work:

Works approximately one hour per day as required, Monday through Friday, during the public school year (September to June). Working conditions will vary depending on the weather of each season during the school year. Specific hours to be worked will be coordinated with the public school and may vary depending on school vacations and professional development days.  This position is to provide relief to permanent crossing guards.

At present the hours are as follows:

Morning:             8:10 a.m. until 8:40 a.m.

Afternoon:          2:55 p.m. until 3:25 p.m.
