The meeting of the Council of the Village of South River was held on Monday, June 8, 2009 in the South River Council Chambers. A quorum was present. In attendance were Mayor Coleman, Deputy Mayor Mahon, Councillors Parker and Scott. Councillor Dickerson was absent with notice.

 

Staff present was Susan Arnold, Clerk-Administrator and Bart Wood, Public Works Chief Operator.

 

 

1.         Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Mayor Coleman at 5:30          p.m.

WHEREAS the Council of the Village of South River has been very conscious of each and every expense having an affect on the annual budget; and

 

WHEREAS the Councillors have traditionally been paid an annual stipend based on a base salary plus remuneration by attendance at each council meeting, shared committee meeting and regional meeting; and

 

WHEREAS the April 30, 2009 edition of the Almaguin News listed the remunerations for the municipalities in the District of Parry and Sound; and

 

WHEREAS the Council of the Village of South River was identified as receiving less than half the average remuneration in comparison to all other municipalities listed; and

 

WHEREAS the elected representatives for the Village of South River devote an equivalent number of hours and are responsible for the same amount of work as their neighbouring colleagues;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Council of the Village of South River does hereby approve a flat rate remuneration schedule in the amount of $8,000 per year for each councilor and $11,000 per year for the Mayor which will include all council meetings and monthly committee meetings for shared departments as described in the Procedural By-law.

 

AND FURTHER, this resolution shall be retroactive to January 1, 2009.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Council of the Village of South River does hereby authorize the Clerk Administrator to attend the North Eastern Ontario Municipal Planning Authority Technical Workshop to be held in Sudbury, Monday September 21, 2009 to Wednesday, September 23, 2009 with all expenses to be paid as per Village policy.

A Public Meeting for the Strategic Plan Consultations will take place in the Council Chambers at the Village of South River Municipal Office June 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. and at the Sundridge Community Center June 18, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

 

The Auditor’s assistant will be visiting the office to meet with the Treasurer and the Clerk on June 18

 

Rabies Clinic June 18, 2009 4p.m. to 6 p.m. at the South River – Machar Fire Hall.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Council of the Village of South River does hereby read a first, second and third time and finally pass By-law 15-2009, being a by-law respecting construction, demolition, change of use, conditional permits and inspections and does hereby repeal all other by-laws or agreements of the Village of South River pertaining to a building by-law with the Mayor and the Clerk Administrator and the corporate seal affixed.
