The meeting of the Council of the Village of South River was held on Monday, July 15, 2009 in the South River Council Chambers. A quorum was present. In attendance were Mayor Coleman, Deputy Mayor Mahon, Councillors Dickerson and Parker.

Staff present was Susan Arnold, Clerk-Administrator and Bart Wood, Public Works Chief Operator.

1.         Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Mayor Coleman at 3:30          p.m.

Council wished to discuss and make plans for utilizing the $65,000 received from the G8 Funding for the beautification of South River.

Key areas included the Train Station, Tom Thomson Park, Ottawa Avenue and Highway #11.

Several ideas were advanced during the discussions including the purchase of a water tank which could sit in the back of the municipal half ton and be used to water flowers as well as be used to control dust during spring sweeping.

The Clerk Administrator was also directed to speak to a local individual who creates carvings out of wood using a chain saw.  Two wooden bears being placed on the South River welcome sign on the east side of Highway #11 (heading north) are being considered.

Council decided a design plan for the key areas would be the first priority allowing continuity within the community as landscaping components and accessories are added over the years. A local individual would be contacted to see if there was an interest in taking on this project design.
