The South River - Machar Township Area

" Away, away from men and towns to the wildwood... to the silent wilderness where the soul need not repress its music. "

Percy Bysshe Shelley

Ontario Map

Located on Hwy 11, about half an hour south of North Bay and 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto, South River has a permanent population of about 1,100 which doubles in summer. The village is the Paddling Entrance to Algonquin Park and can lay claim to being the second-busiest Park access after Hwy 60. South River is a comparatively small, but vibrant community encompassing two provincial parks – Algonquin, 20 kilometres to the east, and Mikisew, 12 Kilometres to the west.
