Council Meeting – November 1, 2011

The special meeting of the Council of the Village of South River was held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in the South River Council Chambers. A quorum was present. In attendance were Mayor Coleman, Councilors O’Hallarn, Mahon and Dickerson.

Councillor Smith was absent with notice.

Staff in Attendance: Susan Arnold, Clerk-Administrator and

Sherri Hawthorne, Treasurer.

Public in Attendance: Bob Stinson, Swift Canoe and Kayak

1. Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Mayor Coleman at 4:33 p.m.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT this meeting of the Village of South River Council be closed under Subsection 239.2 (a) the security of the property of the municipality or local board and that this Council proceed in Camera at 4:34 p.m. in order to address a matter pertaining to a discussion regarding the Visitor Information Centre lease negotiation.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Council reconvene in Open Session at 5:44 p.m.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby accept the proposal submitted by Swift Canoe and Kayak to lease the Visitor Information Centre to operate a retail business as well as maintain the Visitor Information Centre presence. The owner of Swift Canoe and Kayak, or designate, and the Clerk Administrator will sign the agreement.

Due to the recent investigation regarding the cost of collection of household waste and recycling as well as the information received from Machar Township Council regarding disposal fees at the Machar Township Landfill Councillor Mahon felt there was a need to issue an invitational tender for Collection & Disposal of household waste and recycling regardless of where the landfill is located before a final decision could be made.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby direct the Clerk Administrator to issue invitational tenders for Collection and Disposal of household waste and recycling.
