Council Meeting – August 8, 2011

 

The meeting of the Council of the Village of South River was held on Monday, August 8, 2011 in the South River Council Chambers. A quorum was present. In attendance were Deputy Mayor O’Hallarn, Councilors Smith and Dickerson.

1.         Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Deputy Mayor O’Hallarn at 5:30        p.m.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council Meeting Minutes of Monday, July 25, 2011 for the Village of South River be adopted, as printed.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby approve the donation to the 15th Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament in the amount of $100.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby approve closing of the Municipal Office on Monday, September 12, 2011 for the opening ceremonies of the South River Power Generation Grand Opening so that office staff may attend.

7.         Council Roundtable-

·         Soccer wind-up took place on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Once again, thank you to all organizers, volunteers, sponsors and participants! Special thanks to Sharon Smith and Skye Buchanan for all their efforts. It was fun!

·         The last scheduled Council meeting in August has been cancelled unless unexpected events provide the need for a second meeting in August. See you Monday, September 12, 2011!

·         The South River Power Generation Corporation will celebrate its Grand Opening on Monday, September 12, 2011 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. This is a very special occasion for the community. Details will be provided as they become finalized.

·         Mr. Bob List, planner for Mr. Thornborrow, will attend the Monday, September 12, 2011 to make a presentation to Council.

·         Fred Dean will be in-house on Thursday, September 15, 2011 to have an informal discussion with staff and Council and answer any questions you may have regarding municipal procedure.

·         Bill O’Hallarn was asked by The South River Machar Agriculture Society if the  tent for the fall fair could be put up by Village staff for September 9 and 10, 2011.

·         Jeffrey Dickerson asked if office staff could contact Yahoo Maps and advise of an error regarding Duffin Street and Ena Avenue.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby read a first, second and third time and finally pass By-law 28-2011, being a by-law to set 2011 tax rate ratios for prescribed property classes, with the signatures of the Mayor and the Clerk Administrator and the corporate seal affixed.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby read a first, second and third time and finally pass By-law 29-2011, being a by-law to adopt optional tools for the purposes of administering limits for the Commercial, Industrial and Multi-Residential Property Classes for the year 2011 with the signatures of the Mayor and the Clerk Administrator and the corporate seal affixed.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Village of South River does hereby read a first, second and third time and finally pass By-law 30-2011, being a by-law to confirm the proceedings of Council at its meeting held on the 8th day of August, 2011 with the signatures of the Mayor and the Clerk Administrator and the corporate seal affixed.
